I train using hearing protection, but understand that gun shot noise can be very disorienting. Should I occasionally fire without protection to experience the sensations ?

What is the biggest objection( if any) you are finding from Church Leadership, pastors of their members being armed? And how to you work around the objections?
I see too many instructors training individuals for 7 to 10 yards. I have seen more violence start at 6 feet or less. Shouls we be training at that distance?
