Excellent advise and words of wisdom! Everyone has their own personal scenarios that we run through our heads. I am no exception. But unlike people who train to shoot at paper targets, i have through my years in the US Marines and numerous battle field engagements, I have learned the humbling experiences of reality! It is bitting, however, if one properly humblies oneself and does not allow one’s ego to control one’s thoughts and situations the true and honest warrior will prevail! I am not a tier one warrior. However, i am just a humble and thankful Marine infantry MSGT, Nothing more and nothing less!
My chief training instructor is Paul R. Howe, CSAT Nacogdoches, TX. aka Msg Paul Howe, Delta Force Team Leader Battle of Mogadishu, Black Hawk Down! Paul compliments my respect and admiration for Rob! These are true warriors!!!

If you must defend yourself in any way. And hurt, kill someone. NEVER, NEVER
talk to the police. Until you have a lawyer with you. And the right kind of lawyer.
Don’t talk yourself into jail. It’s very simple to do. Know your rights & use them. The law is not on your side.
The thugs have more rights then you do. Just facts. Know your rights. And use them.

I have only recently acquired my LTC. I did however train in Martial Arts (JuJitsu, and Tae Kwon Do) collectively for 12 years. Was a Certified Instructor, and taught for over 6 years of that time frame.
However, due to my favorite hobby of riding a motorcycle. I was in a fairly bad motorcycle accident. Which left me with a little hardware in one of my hips. I can still walk, and ride, but can no longer run, or execute many of the Martial Arts kicks, as I could before, due to poor one point balance and range of motion.( I have been told by many friends and fellow Martial Artists, that my kicks were almost textbook. I have had actual situations where I had to defend myself and others. Hence, the reason for the LTC. I have no problem with close quarter unarmed defense. As with Tactical training, armed and unarmed, you should always be aware of your surroundings, ( this I learned in Martial Arts training) The systems I trained in was not sport style, where the fight is broken to award a point. I learned Combat style, where you fight until Referee breaks/stops the encounter. You always have your hands, elbows, knees and feet. Taking some type of self-defense course is recommended, as well as practicing the techniques you learn until they can be used as a response to an attach.

This is because I love the concept of the “Renaissance Man”; a man who is adept at all facets of life. While I temper my enthusiasm with the adage of “jack-of-all-trades, master at none”, I do totally embrace the idea of working to improve oneself in every way.

I like to think I have done what you’re advising. I won’t win many trophies in specific areas but I sure as hell can enter the contests. Again, just a great article.

There are some things I hate to do and my old reasoning was that I could counter that by being better in other skills.
