I bought my pews without even shooting them. I knew what I wanted, lol. My first visit to the range was great. I appreciated the fact they put me in a lane next to the RSOs. I hadn’t even practiced in 25 years, but they kept an eye out for me and didn’t hover. I felt comfortable there, became a member, and the owner is doing my range qual when I’m ready.

I get jealous of men with their female partners at the range or gun shop. I’ve even gone up to guys and told them, “You have a keeper here!” and commended the lady for taking her OWN defense in her OWN hands. Great article. Keep ’em comin’!

* Sig P238 – lots of women love this small .380 handgun.
* Smith and Wesson M&P EZ (available both in .380 and 9mm).
* Ruger EC9S – reliable, small, INEXPENSIVE! (9mm) Good first gun, because you won’t break the bank buying it.

.380 has less recoil and less punch; 9mm is much more readily available. Practice till your aim is really good, then pick the one which works for you. Go to a range which will let you rent guns, and try a few out before buying one.

Here are a bunch of gun reviews by women:

Yes and no. Sorry, but that generalization is NO different than any other in the industry.
I have in fact witnessed men trying to get a petite Lady to buy a full sized 1911, is THAT any different?
And I once convinced a petite Lady to buy the well made Lady Smith revolver because she simply didn’t have the hand strength to rack a blowback Walther PPk (they ARE very stiff) and it suited her better, in that she was more comfortable with it.
To say they are all being asses is just as bad as those that think women need small guns, or are trying to have fun at their expense with enormous recoil.

One comment I would add is “please don’t discount male instructors who bring the proper attitude to teaching “all women classes.” I am a certified instructor (male) and have held many all female classes with great reviews. It all started when one of my daughters-in-law was asked by her female friends if she knew any female instructors. She said she didn’t but offered my services saying “ he’s my father-in-law so that’s different.” I have enjoyed teaching the classes and would say that by and large the female attendees are easier to teach because they don’t tend to think they know it all already. I also encourage classes for couples believing that if there is a gun in the house both partners should be comfortable being around it. Keep writing and encouraging more women to become responsibly armed Americans.

I am not asking for advice. I am questioning a statement you made in your article and was asking why that statement?
