The Springfield Armory XD(M)® OSP™ (Optical Sight Pistol) allows attachment of popular red dot optics directly to the XD(M)® 4.5-inch pistol with no need for custom modifications.
Optical Sight Pistol
This addition to the Springfield Armory XD(M) series, the Optical Sight Pistol features factory-milled slides and replaceable adapter plates. Out of the box, the OSP™ comes with a Vortex® Venom red dot sight pre-installed. The Venom offers a three MOA red dot – a perfect size that balances fast target acquisition with precision. The Venom features ten levels of brightness and a top-loading battery compartment that allows the optic to maintain zero through battery replacement.
Included is the #1 adapter plate, which supports the Vortex® Venom red dot sight. Also included is a cover plate that is used when no optic is installed. The cover plate is milled to match the contours of the XD(M)® slide. The included adapter plate also fits the Burris FastFire 2 and FastFire 3 red dot sights.
Pros and Cons of Red Dot Sights
Rob Pincus goes into detail about the pros and cons of red dot sights and takes some shots on target to demonstrate the advantages of the red dot sight in terms of speed and increased precision.
The XD(M) OSP-V is a versatile, reliable gun for personal defense and it comes equipped with a red dot. Rob sees the XD(M) OSP-V as being suitable for competition, target shooting, handgun training and practice, home or personal defense, and duty use.
Consider whether the advantages the red dot offers — being faster on higher-level precision shots and more accurate than traditional iron sights — offset the higher cost of the pistol and the learning curve that comes with it. If the answer is yes, the XD(M) OSP-V may be the right handgun for you.
