A purpose-built defensive gun designed by Rob Pincus, the Avidity Arms PD-10 striker-fired pistol has gone into production and will soon be available for sale. Here’s our first close look at it.

Avidity Arms

Avidity Arms was founded by PDN’s Rob Pincus and others, with one goal being to bring to the market handguns designed specifically for personal defense. The PD-10 is a single-stack, full-size, modern striker-fired pistol that includes:

  • ambidextrous magazine release
  • single-sided slide stop
  • moderate length of pull, trigger weight of about 5 pounds
  • short reset and smooth take-up to the first shot

Standard Features

The PD-10 comes standard with I.C.E. Claw Sights and an I.C.E. Claw Baseplate on a 10-round Chip McCormick magazine, giving the user a 10+1 magazine capacity in a full-size, single-stack modern striker-fired pistol. This is something not seen on the market until now, though people have been asking for a full-size, single-stack striker-fired pistol with a 10-round or more capacity for two decades.

Experience with Shooters

From spending many thousands of hours teaching handgun training to thousands of students, Rob knows the configuration that fits the most hand shapes and sizes is a single-stack gun, one with a lot of contour to reduce the girth around the grip area going out to the trigger.

Meant as self-defense gear, the PD-10 also features a low bore axis, loaded chamber indicator, and no magazine disconnect safety or safety lever. A small accessory rail accommodates some light and laser combos. The large magazine release is very easy and very positive for people to use.

First Look, First Shots

On the range, the PD-10 demonstrates the accuracy needed for defensive encounters and is easy and comfortable to hold and manipulate.

Look for the Avidity Arms PD-10 for an MSRP of $499 at retailers in early 2017.

Neither the written description nor the video mentions the caliber of this firearm. 9mm, I would guess?
