Freedom Munitions .300 BLK HUSH Gel Test
Rob PincusThe Freedom Munitions .300 BLK HUSH subsonic round is designed for suppressed rifles and optimized for stealth and accuracy. Rob Pincus believes it’s a good choice for property defense, especially in rural areas with predators. But what about home defense? What damage does this round do to a two-legged predator? That’s why we do these gel tests, to help you choose the best rounds for defensive purposes.
The firearm used here is an APF Armory braced pistol equipped with a Bersa WhisperTech suppressor and optic from Gideon Optics.
Did you predict the Freedom Munitions .300 BLK HUSH would blast through the 16-inch gel block? Clearly this round will hurt a bad guy, but Rob prefers it for hunting, property defense, or performance shooting.
Our collection of gel test videos is extensive. Find them at the link.
.300 Blackout is a very popular caliber It's more popular for hunting, and of course, its suppressive capabilities than it is for Home defense. But if you live in a rural area, Maybe you want the heavier caliber for potential predators around your farm. Your ranch, or you're out in the mountains, or you've chosen the 300 Blackout because it is Incredibly quiet, and you’re going to have much less concussion inside of the house. If you're suppressing a 300 Blackout, then you would with a supersonic 5.56 round. Maybe you’re worried about what it would do inside the bad guy.
And that's why we do these gel demos. And, of course, Just because we're shooting this out of a, uh, braced pistol in this case, APF Army, we're here in Minnesota at the headquarters. Near the headquarters of Personal Defense Network. Um, this is an APF armory, also a Minnesota company, located lower. Um, set up as a pistol, it is suppressed.
This is Whisper Tech by Bersa, 7.62, .30 caliber Suppressor. We got the Gideon optic on there. And this is the Hollow Point Boat Tail Hush ammunition from Freedom Munitions. Of course, they've been with us for several years as a tour sponsor. Um, this is one of their newer rounds, and we're going to go ahead and fire one into our Clear ballistics gel block as usual, just because we're shooting from this PDW setup This.
Points of contact, more like a long gun than a Pistol scenario. Um, we're not going to change anything about what our home-defense application is. So I'm still about 1,215 ft away. We've got two layers of cotton, The soft clothing over the ballistic gelatin, and we're using a 16-inch block. Let's see what happens.
Let's go take a look. Okay, not yet. Surprisingly, we went all the way through the 16-inch gel block. Obviously, through our light clothing, our standard barrier for self-defense, Home-defense situations. Now, this is a 220-grain round, obviously intended to be subsonic.
And that’s why you want the heavier rounds. That’s one of the big advantages. Of course, of 300 Blackout, and that's what the Hush does really well. You can see we’re on an indoor range. I’m not wearing any hearing protection.
There's no supersonic crack. That WhisperTech does a great job. Combined with this ammo, it’s not really intended to expand like the XDE line From Freedom Munitions or any other defense-oriented hollow point or ballistic Tip round for hunting. This is intended to be a higher-accuracy round. This is a boat-tail hollow point.
We know that's a legendary design for sure. Good, consistent accuracy; we do see some disruption. We see that there’s a little bit, probably moving in here about where we’ll go. This way, so you guys can see it. Somewhere here in the 4- to 6-inch range, we're seeing the most disruption.
That's where the front of that bullet probably did open up a little bit. And then you can see it’s very hard to see that the bullet came through this way. And then we see a little more disruption at the end of this 16-inch. Probably around the 14 or 15-inch mark. If you’re looking for a very quiet round, a very heavy round, Round is probably going to be great for hunting.
Keep that accuracy up if you’re interested. In doing so. Some performance shooting with a 300 Blackout. Freedom Munitions Hush, absolutely 100% the way to go. But if you're using it inside your home for self-defense or home defense, Personal defense, family defense situation, know that the performance you’re gonna get is Going to do its job.
We're gonna put some real pain on the bad guy. Here and disrupt his ability to hurt you, but this round is not optimized for personal Defense, optimized for accuracy and that very low sound signature in the 300 Blackout. Hush.
