Rob Pincus started using Holosun sights in 2017. He then took them on the 2017 PDN Training Tour and loaned them to students. He was impressed with their durability, clarity, battery life, and value for money.

Now PDN is proud to have Holosun as a sponsor on the 2018 PDN Training Tour, and we look forward to working with Holosun even more closely in the future.

Holosun 503CU Elite Green Dot Sight

The Holosun 503CU Elite green dot sight is a circle and dot version that uses battery and/or solar power from the solar panel built into it. Rob prefers to rely on battery power, and this one has a 50,000-hour potential life with the dot only. If you use the dot and the circle, it varies. It has ten adjustment levels for visible light and two for night vision.

Holosun is a value brand, not a bargain brand. The 503CU Elite comes with two different mounting options. The flat mount works well on an AK, and the riser mount is better for an AR.

Rob has an AR pistol equipped with the 503CU Elite green dot sight with riser mount that puts the 503CU over the Viridian light and laser and allows Rob to use his back-up flip-up iron sights. Aiming the rifle with everything up, Rob can still see the circle and the dot of the Holosun very clearly.

It’s a 2 MOA dot with a 65 MOA circle around it. The iron sights are visible through the optic.

Advantages of the Green Dot Sight

On sights, green works better than red for a lot of people’s eyes, and now Holosun offers a green dot sight in various configurations and at a fair price. If you’re looking for an optic to add to your defensive gear for a patrol rifle, a defensive rifle, or even a hunting rifle, Holosun may be the right choice for you. It’s excellent for competition or plinking as well.

I did look at this brand when I was looking for a sighting system. One thing that kept me from buying this brand was the Warranty, they could not beat the lifetime warranty that Vortex Optics has in place. If anything happens to it, it is fixed/replaced no questions asked. Vortex has customer service that is unmatched by anyone.

This looks interesting, but I ran into one thing in a recent customer review that gives me some pause: "The optic is nice and small, and the green circle dot redicle is easy to see.....from BOTH SIDES of the optic. While the view thru the sight is great, From the front you see the green led emitter shining like a beacon and TWO circle dot reticles superimposed on one another." I'm not strongly worried about this (I use a laser on my defensive pistols and one carbine) but it is a potential concern that I hope you could comment on.

This is the Holosun CU Elite green dot sight. Now I've been really excited about Holosun for going on a couple of years now. In 2017, I got really interested in what was going on with Holosun. And I went ahead and purchased a couple of their optics on my own, just to try them out, gave them to some students and some tour classes and started using it myself. And I was really impressed.

I was impressed with the durability. I was impressed with the clarity, the battery life all the things you would expect, the usefulness but especially the value when it comes to Holosun. And that's why I'm proud to have them as a 2018 personal events network, tour sponsor and to be working with them even closer at this year and hopefully in the future. The Holosun now also offers a green dot not just a red dot system across their line. This one happens to be, as I said the 503 CU Elite and this is a circle and dot version, which uses battery and or the solar panel.

Of course, Holosun, that's the idea is they have a solar panel backup. Now personally, I really like to rely on the battery and this battery is gonna last a long time. It's got a 50,000 hour potential life with the dot only, if you use the dot in the circle, it varies but if you have the dot only set at level 10 or a 10 adjustment levels for visible light and two for night vision. At level 10 it's still going to last 25,000 hours with just the dot. If you go to the dot in the circle, you get about 20,000 hours of battery life.

Now thousands and thousands of hours, of course what that means is, you change them every six months, you're fine. Change them every year, you're probably going to be fine as well. Some people let it go a lot longer, especially when they're out on the range using the solar panel backup. Now, Holosun is a value brand in that it's not cheap, it's not a bargain brand, it's just a fairly priced brand. When you buy this unit it's gonna come with two different mounting options either the flat mount, which will work great on something like an AK or the riser mount which is better for the AR of course this mount puts it up over my viridian light and laser.

And it also allows me to use my backup sights as well. So I've got the flip-up sights. If I bring the gun up right now with everything up I can still see that circle and the dot very clearly. It is a two MOA dot with a 65 MOA circle around it. And again, the iron sights are, are viewable through the optic.

I don't have to worry about releasing it, of course, leave those down and they're not even in the field of view. They actually show up about in the lower third on this particular configuration on this pistol. Now the AR system obviously is the one that I see most often in classes, whether it's a pistol with a brace, a pistol without a brace or a standard carbon or a full size rifle with the AR 15 type design. And just about everybody now is using what we've referred to as red dot sights for the last couple of decades. The fact is green works a lot better for a lot of people's eyes.

And now Holosun offers a green dot sight in this configuration and others at a fair price. It's durable, it's reliable. I have really come to enjoy these optics and I see a lot of students having a lot of success with them. If you're looking for an optic for your defensive rifle, for your patrol rifle, even for a hunting rifle, Holosun may be the choice for you, of course, for competition and for blinking, it's going to be great as well. And it's obviously fully adjustable.

We can go ahead and take these caps off and make all the adjustments we need for zeroing it for changing distance, changing from one gun to another. And of course, remember the Holosun does come with the mounts so you don't have to buy the optic and then the mount separately, and it comes with two mounts. It comes with all the hardware you need. It comes with two tools, two battery trays, ready to go. Holosun 503CU Elite green dot sight, a great addition to the Holosun lineup.
