Holosun AEMS-Pro-X2: Unboxing

Rob Pincus
Duration:   5  mins

The Holosun AEMS-Pro-X2 is a compact, fully functional, low-profile, durable and reliable red-dot sight (RDS). It’s available in red, green, and gold and is multi-reticle (circle, dot, or circle-dot) with a 2 MOA dot. Compact RDS have come a long way – what once was considered a compact RDS might now be deemed massive, or at least hefty. Holosun has refined their already truly compact AEMS-Pro and now offers the X2 version.

Rob Pincus reviews the features of the X2 and suggests uses for it beyond professional military and LE applications. In a companion video, Rob puts the AEMS-Pro-X2 on his Nemo Mongoose and heads to the range for some practical testing.

This is the AIS Pro X2 from HollowSun, and it's a compact, fully functional, incredibly durable and reliable red dot site. There was a time when we thought this was a. Rugged compact site for a red dot, but things have come a long way, and this, as I stated, was the X2 version, which means even Hollow Sun with their AIMS Pro has come even further, and we're gonna talk about what some of the features are on this. Now, first of all, this is a red dot site, it's multi-radical, so you can have the circle dot, the circle, or just the dot. It's a 2 MOA dot in the center.

This particular one is red. It's available in green and gold also. The outer circle with dashes at the 369, and 12 is a 65 MOA. It's got a 50,000 hour battery life and it does have solar backup to augment that power. It's a standard CR 2032 battery and the battery tray is accessible while the unit is mounted on a firearm.

Now this does come with this. Mount, this is an integrated low profile mount. You can remove the mount from the Ames Pro X2 and put it on anything else that you might want to have it on. A lot of people might want to think about putting this up higher. That's sort of the trend right now, um, but I do like the fact that it comes with a low profile mount so that we can get a good cheek weld, get down on there, and obviously not have as much optical offset over the borderline.

As I said, this does have a solar backup power. It can run off of solar. The other thing that the AIS Pro X2 has is a sensor facing the target that reads the amount of light on the target. Now combined in auto mode, the solar cell and the diode that's reading the amount of light on the target. Can adjust the brightness of your reticle.

Now if you decide to set it manually, which most people do, you have 8 daytime settings and 4 night vision settings. It is obviously night vision compatible. You can see here these little clips on the side. They're very rugged and durable, and they hold the sacrificial lenses front and rear. Let's take a look inside.

For a second, see what this comes with the typical hollow sun, I think they're awesome little plastic boxes. Um, this tool that everybody's used to seeing, um, this torque is what you're gonna use to remove the mount. This torque is also going to open up the battery tray, and this torque is going to remove the hinge on the sacrificial clear lens should you need to replace them. That's what they're there for if they get damaged. Uh, you also have inside of the package.

An anti-reflection filter which can be used in place of the clear lens on the front of the optic, and again you're going to use that torques. The screwdriver, the flat side is going to be used to make your left, right, up, down adjustments when we're going to match this to the firearm. Obviously. Another cool thing that this comes with, in addition to an extra battery tray is a wrench because you can see that the way. This mounts, it's not the small torques head screw.

We've got a large nut on here that we can adjust either way with that wrench, which is nice. You can also stick a large flathead screwdriver in there. This one doesn't quite work in that space, but if we needed to, we could use the side of it to wedge in there and move that if we were to lose the wrench. So you stick a quarter in there, whatever we need to do to take that on or off, worst case scenario on the range. Now, as I said, it's good for 50,000 hours of battery life set up in this normal mode, but it also has a shake awake, that shake awake standby.

The sleep setting can be set for 10 seconds or even longer. You can set it all the way up to 12 hours, so you can make some quick adjustments there. It is made of aluminum, it is waterproof. It's got vibration protection, all the things that you would expect. The other thing I like about it, it's got very large buttons, easy to operate large.

Buttons on the side to adjust your brightness, um, hold both of them down. You're gonna turn it off. If you want to make adjustments to the reticle itself, you just hold for 3 seconds and it's gonna rotate from the dot circle dot, just the circle. Um, I think most people have a fixed preference. There might be some situations where you're gonna change it up.

Now let's go back to what we might be using this for. Obviously it, it is rugged, durable, SWAT, special operations, military use. That means it's gonna be really easy to use in a home defense situation. Might also be something that you want to use hunting. Maybe you're doing some, uh, predator hunting close in.

Again, it is night vision compatible. Maybe you're worried about varmints around the, the chicken coop. Maybe it's something like hogs, and you aren't worried about magnification. You're going to be up close on them, maybe with a PC. See lever actions really popular nowadays.

Putting a rail on a lever action, that's someplace that this would really shine that hunting environment. And again, there's another reason why you might want the anti-reflection. This isn't just, uh, for counter sniper work in a military or law enforcement setting. There are some reasons why you might want to use that anti-reflection instead of the clear on the front. All the great quality you would expect from Hollow Sun, sub $500 comes out of the box with everything you need and some redundancy, some extra things.

This is the unboxing. This is the features. We're gonna do another video where I set it up to help with my long-term review. This is gonna be about the 5th optic I've had on my Nemo Mongoose. We're gonna go out to the range to look for that video soon from Personal Defense Network.

Everywhere that sells good optics online or in person, all your local shops, uh, probably are carrying Hallow Sun by now. If you need a good, durable, rugged, low profile, compact $50,000 plus multi-radical red dot, consider the Ames Pro X2.
