Hornady 300 Blackout Sub-X Gel Test
Rob PincusThe Hornady 300 Blackout 190-grain Sub-X round is primarily a hunting round, but Rob Pincus believes it would also make a good home-defense round. He does a gel test to obtain more information.
The Sub-X has the XTP bullet with Flex-Tip insert. It’s engineered to expand at low speed, and as its name suggests, it’s a subsonic round. Rob fires the Sub-X from an 8-inch-barreled rifle with a Mojave 9 suppressor attached. He shoots it at about 20 feet, a typical home-defense distance. What damage does the round do and what does that mean for home-defense use?
Here at PDN, we have numerous gel test videos that provide info about the performance of various rounds. Check them out at the link!
