Modular Belly Band Holsters
Rob PincusRob Pincus goes over the details of the Modular Belly Band that he designed in conjunction with Crossbreed Holsters for comfort and convenience along with consistent efficient holstering. Traditional belly bands are comfortable, but relatively slow and hard to train with, but this model of the belly band holster integrates kydex and uses hook & loop fastener to allow for the band to be used with multiple firearms or other defensive tools.
For many years I've been a fan of the KYDEX Holster for concealed carry. Whether it be at the traditional four o'clock or five o'clock position, or even the appendix carry. Now for sub-compact guns, there's almost no more comfortable way for me to carry them, then tucked down below the waistband area inside of a good belly band. The problem with the traditional belly band, whether it's just the stretch material itself, or even the stretch material with a leather pocket, is that the presentation was always relatively slow. And it was almost impossible to safely re-holster in a training environment.
Well, now we have a holster that combines both the convenience and comfort of the belly band. Not needing to worry about a belt, not having any clips exposed or anything like that. And the efficiency of presentation from, and then re-holstering back into KYDEX. I'm going to pull this out, and we're going to take a really close look at it. This particular holster, again is, just like a traditional belly band in that it uses hook and loop fastener, along with some stretch material to go around the body.
A lot of people, for when they first see these, actually try to wear them up around their belly or even up here at the side of their body. I find it much better to go ahead and tuck it down in, so that it's at the waistline. Or if you're more traditional, you're going to keep it back here at the four o'clock or the five o'clock position. Now what's nice about this, and I'm going to go ahead and seal it up again. This one connects from the front to the back in two places.
And then we're going to position it. And what you see here, of course, the waistband and whatever pants you're wearing, helps to keep this consistently positioned. But what we've actually got is a removable holster. So this removable holster hits this Velcro at whatever angle you might want to put it at. You might want to put it over here for a little more cross draw.
Some people will carry here at the 11:30 or 11 o'clock for their appendix carry version. Other people will put it over here, and of course we can adjust the band around the body as well. The other nice thing about this particular setup that gives us the advantage of the KYDEX with the belly band, is that we can have one belly band with multiple holster attachments. That if we choose to carry a different firearm, maybe one that's a little thinner, one that's easier to conceal. Or for whatever reason, other than actual concealment, we decide to switch firearms.
We have the base belly band that we wear normally and we can just replace that. The other nice thing about this, is if you have Velcro positioned to other places, for example inside of your vehicle, maybe you have one of the bedside mounts, or something mounted into your desk at work. When you get into that seated position, where a lot of people don't like to carry appendix, you know you're going to be sitting in the car for a long time, you're gonna be sitting at the office for awhile. You can simply remove this holster complete, without having to worry about un-holstering the gun, and attach it to whatever hard surface you've got your Velcro mounted on. So that's another really good, versatile way to integrate appendix carry inside waistband, which again a lot of people don't like seated along with that hard point, keeping of a firearm in our workspace or in our home environment.
So consider the belly band all the time but especially consider one that allows you to integrate this KYDEX holster piece. For more efficient presentations and safer re-holstering during your training.
