Duration:   4  mins

The NEMO Arms Mongoose 9mm PDW, set up as a braced pistol, has now done two PDN Training Tours, in 2024 and 2025. Rob Pincus has fired thousands of rounds through it and it’s been in demand as a loaner gun to firearms-training students, making the total round count several thousand. Rob’s verdict? He really likes the Mongoose as a minimalist, compact, easy to shoot, and very efficient personal defense weapon. Rob reviews the original specs and the modifications he’s made to the Mongoose.

This is the Nemo Mongoose 9 millimeter PDW. Now on your website they talk about the carbine version, the pistol versions, all that. This is set up technically as a braced pistol. Obviously it has a folding brace on it. I really like this thing as a minimalist, compact, very easy to shoot, very efficient personal defense weapon.

Uh, you notice I've got a sling on it. I've got it. Set up with QDs, um, front and rear of the receiver as I prefer, but I'm gonna get those out of the way and I'm also gonna get this folding brace out of the way so you can get a better look specifically at this firearm. It's a tilting barrel design. It's a really unique design.

There is a flat face version that doesn't have the cutouts that allows you to put a suppressor on there, very specific about which suppressors can be used. They need to be relative. Relatively short because of the tilting barrel action, but I have shot it suppressed. It's very reliable, very cool. One of the things I changed on it right away was I put the black collar grip, which I like on all my ARs right now.

It's definitely my go to grip with that kind of 0 degree angle there and a nice palm swell, good flat front. Um, I do put some of the grip tape on it front and rear. I'm not as worried about grip tape on the side. When we look at the mongoose itself, it's set up with ambidextrous control. So I've got left and right, obviously on this side because most shooters are right-handed.

That's cut down. We have a full size, get that brace back open. We have a full size selector switch on this side. It's also ambidextrous in terms of our bolts lock open or bolt release, depending on how you use that. And because it's got a paddle lever in the center of the gun under the trigger guard for the magazine release, that's going to be ambidextrous as well, and you can reach that with either trigger finger, right or left.

It's got a very wide open magwell. Um, obviously it's set up to add M lock accessories. It's got a. That you can move from one side to the other. Again, that's ambidextrous and the charging handle, when we did the original features and specifications of the mongoose, you can go back and look at that video we talked about how the non-reciprocating charging handle can be reversed left side or right side as well.

This might be the prettiest gun at the end of a tour that I've ever had. This gun has been in the case a lot. It hasn't been bouncing around on the range as much as some of the AI. Ours do. And again, because of the nature of this gun, it's just very easy to fold it down, keep it in a case, keep it in a backpack, um, any kind of concealment backpack meant to carry a small folding, uh, set up like this.

It sits in there really well. It's also got a low profile optic on. I've had a lot of different optics on it. You've probably seen this on a couple of Personal offense Network videos during 2025 testing other optics or accessories. Um, this particular Gideon pistol optic works great.

So long as when you set this up with a brace, if you're going to shoot this like a long gun and have 4 points of contact, you just need to make sure that this comb is low enough to let you look at this without a raised amount. And again, because of the low profile nature of the gun, the minimalist nature of the gun in general, I do really like this idea of putting the pistol optic on it. This is a very wide window on this Gideon optic, so we're all set there. This gun has thousands of rounds through it. Lots of different people wanted to shoot it.

Um, it's been kind of one of the cool trendy guns of 2025. We're really excited to have had this on the tour with us through 2024 and 2025 now. So this gun has been around for a while. Um, I got one of the first ones that came out. Um, again, thousands of rounds through it.

Um, I've shot a couple 1000 myself. We've had a lot of students shoot it and we've had a lot of fun with it. It's just, it's an easy gun to shoot. It's a fun gun to shoot, uh. It's not any fun for you to watch me shoot, but I'm gonna let you watch me shoot it.

Um, if you have any questions or thoughts about the Nemo Mongoose, let us know in the comments. Um, it's always great to work with Nemo. They're super high quality company, and they make some really innovative stuff. Of course, what got my attention from them in the first place was the first place was their 300 wind Mag Omen. This thing's completely on the other end of the spectrum, really small, really light, really easy to shoot, 9 millimeter PDW, the Mongoose from Nemo Arms.
