Session 8: Class Summary
Todd FosseyTo complete the Class, Fossey provides a valuable recap of the core concepts, principles and techniques to this comprehensive approach to defending one of the most common and dangerous types of assaults in the world.
Okay guys so, quick summarization of the things that we've covered so far. Alright. Again, I keep saying this but I'll probably keep saying it. I hope that you start to see this as a whole. I hope that you start to see this as a whole interchangeable simple system that you can apply.
You can actually apply a lot of this stuff almost all of it, to circumstances that you're faced with where someone doesn't have an impact weapon. You can cross apply this in a lot of different ways. Okay? So, quickly what did we just go through? Alright.
In longer impact weapon from a 45 degree angle, very, very quickly, bear with me I'm just gonna touch on stuff now, okay? So I'm crashing inside, underhook, neck pike, right? Now I can start to look for a duck under if that's there, remember the duck under, not gonna do a lesson on duck unders as long as you get the basic concept that's what's important right now. Okay? Counter-attacking and or I can look for my dumps from there.
Okay? Next thing that we did, is if the arm was coming at a lower angle, we prefer, crash inside overhook, okay? I can still control from here, start to look for that rip away and that take away from there. Alright? I can still do down strips and sweeps from here as well.
A lot of the same stuff so, still applies. Okay? If it's coming from an even lower lane remember I can block with the knee as I come in for that over hook. Boom. Everyone remembers what the details are.
Go back to the details from there, okay? The two handed baseball bat swing came at me, right? Crashing inside, crashing in on the elbows, hand comes over the top to control. Start to rip away, grabbed the belt all the same stuff that we've talked about, okay. There's going to be a bonus feature on this that we'll talk about.
later in the bonus features, okay. Then we've got the hammer. Remember with the hammer, right? Same principles apply. But if he's coming with the highest probability 45 degree angle my hand hook comes into controls at the wrists.
Remember, get a nice angle, pressure the wrist I've got my takeaway. Hammer fist, break range, same stuff from there. Then we've got the samurai sword, Samurai sword attack. Remember, coming straight from the top, arm comes out, getting that angle. Let's go.
Let's go this way though. Getting that angle here, skimming across trapping, same principles apply there. Alright? Then we have the charging attack. We're not going to redo all that.
You can watch the video or maybe they'll drop some B roll in so that you can see it. We got dealing with the charging attack. Remember where we were gonna to look for lateral movement there, right? For outside of the range of the weapon. We talked about that as well.
We want to stay outside of the range of the weapon. We want lateral movement. Okay. That's the whole idea. Remember those principles.
Remember the analogy of the, the storm right of the hurricane for outside of the hurricane, stay outside. If the hurricane is going to reach us we want to get inside the eye of the storm. That's the whole idea. We wanna manage distance. We wanna get a good posture.
We wanna get a good position, right? We wanna counter attack. Possibly take away, dump, take them down. Escape, evade, transition to a force multiplier. Whatever the case may be.
Dumps, quick review on the dumps. Crashing inside, boom, all my counter attacks, beef wellington. Remember our whole dump system, right? He's pushing against me, collapsing down, circling back taking him all the way on the ground. Okay.
If he postures up from that beef Wellington here, boom, boom. He postures up. Remember this cross face, here, where his head goes his body follows back trip. Take him down there. Okay.
Maybe I can't get the beef Wellington. So I've done the hook and neck pike will turn. Okay. He pushes it into me. I can spiral him down or I get his hand I can tuck his head.
Remember? Good. Sorry. Alright. And then we also have swish here.
We also had the inside trip. Boom. He's staying static. He's not pushing. He's not pushing.
I'm continuing to counterattack. I load him up on that outside leg. Step inside, hip bump, block his foot, sit, with head down, down he goes, brake range, work all of our options there. Okay. So real quick summary there of all the things that we've been working on today spend some time with it, train it, grab a partner spend some repetition work your way to that point where you have conscious competence than unconscious competence, right?
The stakes are high. This is life or death. This is a nasty type situation. It's high probability. We hope that you've found all of these things to be practical.
We hope that you found all of these things to be helpful. Hopefully you never have to use it. But if you do, use it with all that you've got, all of the force that you have. Mostly, remember that you are a citizen defender support other citizen defenders. And I look forward to training with you guys again, until next time.
Thanks guys.
