Description

For years, Rob Pincus has been insisting that every certified instructor in any program he teaches, and anyone affiliated with PDN who is running a range, have an emergency medical kit out on the range with them.

5.11 UCR IFAK Pouch

For the entire 2018 PDN Training Tour, Rob’s emergency medical kit of choice was the 5.11 UCR IFAK Pouch, also known as the 5.11 Headrest Quick Access Pouch, because it is designed to attach to a vehicle’s headrest or any MOLLE or web platform.

The 5.11 Tactical UCR IFAK Pouch lets you keep one to two blow-out kits or medical essentials within arm’s reach. The pouch features a drop-down zippered compartment with a light-colored interior for easy equipment identification even in low-light conditions, and bungee tie-downs for added stability.

Class Procedures

At the start of class every morning when on a live-fire range, Rob opens the 5.11 UCR IFAK Pouch and shows the students what is inside the pouch. Then he closes it and tosses it out on the range so it is within easy reach and so everyone knows where it is. Rob has long advocated keeping various emergency medical kits on your person, in your vehicle and in your home as part of your essential self-defense gear.

Rob likes the 5.11 UCR IFAK Pouch because it’s very rugged and has survived sitting out on ranges all over the country in various weather conditions. It’s also very easy to open.

Gunshot Wound Response Kit

The contents of the 5.11 UCR IFAK Pouch are what is known as a blow-out kit or a gunshot wound response kit. It’s not a boo-boo or sickness kit containing band-aids and aspirin. The front of the kit has a prominent red cross on it, clearly indicating the kit contains medical gear.

On the range, at home, in your vehicle, or attached to your body, your medical gear needs to be staged so you can access it efficiently and use it efficiently. The compact, durable case of the 5.11 UCR IFAK Pouch means Rob always has it with him and is not tempted to put anything that isn’t emergency medical gear in it.
