Here's another important video from the Personal Defense Network. An important key to precision shooting is the maintenance of your rifle. In front of us we have several different chemicals that we're gonna use to assist in maintaining it. There are several different companies out there that make it. First, you need to start off with a good patch.

Appropriate for the caliber of the rifle itself. Then a copper solvent A powder solvent. A lead solvent, if you're not using a precision rifle for something like handguns. Different types of firearms that you're shooting lead bullets through. And lastly is a good lubrication.

When you're cleaning your rifle, you need to start from the breech end, never the muzzle. Use a good patch that's appropriate in size. Wet it with a copper solvent, because that's what you'll be shooting is copper bullets. Run it down the barrel. Pull the patch off, do not drag the patch back through.

The problem that you encounter, is if you use the same patch twice. Is when you drag it back through it picks up the microscopic particles of copper that you just pushed out and you're just redeposit in the barrel. From this point you'll take a wire brush brass or copper. Never steel because you'll harm the inside of the bore. And push it through three or four times and drag it back out.

And then you run a dry patch through. After you've got your barrel thoroughly cleaned. You go to cleaning your chamber and that's where your powder solvent comes in. Powder solvent with a patch. You'll go back into the chamber and you'll scrub it out good to remove any unburnt powder and carbon buildup that may occur there.

With the precision rifle, you will not need a lead remover because all your bullets that you should be shooting will be copper jacket encased. But a lead remover is something that needs to be brought up. The oil. When you get ready to store your rifle, for any extended period of time. You should take a patch, put a light coat oil on it and run it through the bore.

This will ensure that there's no rusting, pitting or anything like that. Also make sure you oil your action thoroughly and completely. You've spent a lot of time and money setting up your precision rifle and becoming proficient with it. Buying good quality products is a must, using them is a must. On a regular consistent basis.
