A medium range stick is perfect for the in-between areas of close-quarters fighting. You can use a medium length stick single or double-handed for more control and power. The mechanics are slightly different when dealing with a longer tool, so pay close attention to how you strike so you can be more effective in your defense and attacking abilities.
