Inside the waistband or outside the waistband concealed carry — which is better? PDN’s Rob Pincus and Team Springfield’s Rob Leatham agree on the answer to this important question.

Both Robs are carrying outside the waistband with a loose shirt as a cover garment. Outside the waistband carry may be more comfortable, especially in hot weather or with certain body types. And when they are standing, the handgun is not noticeable. But when moving, especially turning or bending, the outline of the handgun is visible, appearing as a big bulge under the cover garment.

Switching to appendix inside the waistband carry, both Robs can move freely and the handgun remains invisible.

Purpose of Concealed Carry

We need to be practical and keep the weapon of last resort hidden until we need it. Outside the waistband carry may also attract unwanted attention and questions from people about the fact that we’re carrying a handgun. Inside the waistband carry eliminates this possibility because it truly conceals the handgun.

In conclusion, both Robs agree that inside the waistband concealed carry is overwhelmingly the best choice for most people most of the time.
