Freedom Munitions X-DEF 380 vs 9mm

Rob Pincus
Duration:   5  mins

The most popular round for personal defense with a handgun is 9mm, with 380 not far behind. Some new shooters prefer 380 because it has less recoil and they can use a lighter gun that is easier to handle than a 9mm.

In a previous video, Rob Pincus introduced Freedom Munitions X-DEF 380 ammunition and the Smith & Wesson M&P380 Shield EZ. Now he does a comparison gel test with the X-DEF 380 and X-DEF 9mm round. Both are hollow points. The 380 is 95 grain and the 9mm is 124 grain.

Rob looks for a defensive round to penetrate 12 to 15 inches in the gel block. How do the X-DEF 380 and 9mm measure up?

Why is the comparison between .380 and 9 mm +P? Wouldn't the apples-to-apples comparison be .380 to anormal pressure 9mm round?
