The Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener from Work Sharp makes sharpening knives simple and does a great job. If you usually outsource this task, the Precision Adjust is a good choice.
Rob Pincus demonstrates how it works using 15-year-old knife that has never been sharpened. It’s a utility knife with about a five-inch blade that has been on camping and hunting trips, so it’s seen a lot of use.
FEATURES OF THE PRECISION ADJUST KNIFE SHARPENER
The Work Sharp Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener has a lot of features that make it easy to use. The clamp that holds the knife comes off the unit, so you can easily clamp the knife, then tighten it (the clamp accommodates up to a 3/16-inch thick blade and a 10-inch long blade plus handle) and pop it back into the unit.
One precision adjustment that can be made very easily is the exact angle of the knife sharpener. Rob sets it at a 20-degree angle for sharpening this knife.
Another adjustable piece is the coarseness of the sharpener. Instead of having multiple rods with different coarseness, the Precision Adjust has one rod with three built-in and replaceable sharpeners on it. The three are ultra fine, 320 grit, and 600 grit.
EASE OF USE
Rob has found it’s not necessary to be meticulous with this knife sharpener about which direction the blade is sharpened in. It’s fine to just saw on the blade. When it’s time to do the other side, just pull out the clamp and knife, flip them and reattach.
Upon finishing, Rob does the obligatory hair shaving test and the knife does it with ease. When a knife sharpener is this easy to use, it’s worth adding to your stock of tools and accessories.
