Rob Pincus presents the features of the Vaultek LifePod 2.0, a portable quick-access biometric safe. Rob traveled all over the country with one during the 2022 PDN Training Tour, so he has extensive experience with it.
A safe storage device for your firearm is an essential piece of defensive gear. The Vaultek LifePod 2.0 is a lightweight travel-size safe that weighs just over 3 pounds. It comes with a 48-inch cable lock for securing the LifePod inside a vehicle so it isn’t a smash-and-grab target. It also meets TSA guidelines so you can travel with it by air. It has enough room to store one full-size handgun with holster and magazines.
There’s more than one way to open the Vaultek LifePod 2.0. It has capacitive buttons – wake it up by touching the lock and then enter a code of 4 to 8 digits. It’s also a biometric safe – you can open it via your stored fingerprint. Thirdly, it has a keyed backup, which if you are worried about being picked, you can turn off from inside.
Rob demonstrates how to program the safe using the biometric feature. With any biometric safe, he encourages users to program not just one finger. This system holds up to 20 fingerprints and takes four images (at different angles) of each fingerprint.
INSIDE THE SAFE
The LifePod 2.0 has a couple layers of foam and an accessory tray; you can configure these as you wish. You may store any type of valuables, not just a handgun or other self-defense weapons.
The LifePod is dustproof and water-resistant, with two clasps for that, but those clasps do impact quick access. If Rob is going to sleep, he does not engage the two clasps so that if he needs to access his firearm in the night, it will be faster to gain access to the safe.
Inside the LifePod is an LED light that comes on when the safe is opened, enabling you to get a good solid firing grip on your handgun even in a dark room.
