Rob Pincus shares with PDN viewers his first range experience using the MantisX Performance System, so we can all observe whether the system is user friendly to operate and if it gives useful feedback.

How It Works

The MantisX Shooting Performance System connects to the accessory rail of any firearm, just like other firearm attachments. It works with live fire, dry fire, airsoft, and CO2. Attach the MantisX device, then install the smartphone app, turn on the MantisX device and pair it to your phone via Bluetooth.

Conduct your handgun shooting drills, then collect the data. It will help you evaluate shooting performance, identify areas of improvement, and track progress over time.

The data it gives you includes direction and magnitude to track the movement of your handgun barrel during the trigger pull. Shots are grouped according to movement pattern similarity. Also a shot-by-shot analysis helps you track the score of each shot individually and analyze trends in your shooting. It includes many other features such as a shot timer, customized settings, and audio feedback.

Rob’s Feedback

That’s what MantisX says. How did Rob fare operating the system? Rob confirms that it’s simple to get the device and the smartphone app to communicate with each other. He selects the option called “Start Intro Course,” so he does that and follows the instructions given by the app on how many shots to take. The app gives instant feedback on Rob’s performance. Rob reviews the data, and there is a lot of it.

Rob will now try to figure out where the MantisX fits into his personal skill development and his personal handgun training program. He’s encouraged by this first session and wants to explore more with this system.

The MantisX is available for any gun that has a rail attachment, but the shooter will not be able to work from the holster unless you have a custom holster made that accommodates the device.

Follow along here on PDN as Rob does long-term testing of the MantisX. As he begins to understand it better, so will you. If you’re interested in diagnosing your shooting, especially the trigger press to the highest level you possibly can, the MantisX will help.
